Royal Rumble

Tonight's the WWE Royal Rumble and depending on my mood afterwards, I may record and post my first official vlog reviewing it. But first, I thought I'd give a few thoughts on the event before seeing it.

I expect Laycool to become champs again against Natalya. Oh, where to start? I hate co-champions. I didn't like it when Chris Jericho and Chyna held the intercontinental title together and I don't like it anymore now. Also, why are Michelle McCool and Layla getting another shot at the title? Yes, I admit I find them entertaining, but still, there are many other women in the WWE who haven't gotten a shot in forever so why don't they get a chance? WWE's women's division is a joke, but then that's nothing new.

I figure Edge will successfully defend his World Heavyweight title against Dolph Ziggler and I believe that's the right thing. Dolph has been very impressive over the past few months, however his push to the main event was sudden and I don't think putting the title on him right away is a good idea. I think he would benefit more from putting on a good performance in a losing effort. After all, you'd think the WWE would learn by now that putting a title on someone suddenly is a dangerous move.

The Miz vs. Randy Orton. Another person said that Miz has been a failure as WWE champion but I disagree. I do think his reign is failing but it's not the fault of the Miz. In fact, he has improved by leaps and bounds both in the ring and on the mic since he first came to the WWE. But the thing is, having someone win the biggest title in the company on a fluke and then manage to keep it over and over on flukes makes the title look...I was gonna say weak, but I think a better word would be "pathetic." The way this reign has gone is proof of why all the titles in the WWE mean absolutely nothing. That being said, I don't expect Randy Orton to get the title tonight. Though Miz will probably keep it by a fluke yet again.

The Royal Rumble match itself also leads to some interesting discussion points. Since I became a fan in 1990, this match has always been my favorite of the year. I admit, though, I'm a little concerned about the increase to forty men. It seems like that could turn it into a mess. As for predictions, this is a little tough in my opinion, which I like. It's rare these days for it to not seem completely predictable. My initial thought was John Morrison. I'd heard that the WWE heads were very impressed with his work lately and after his match with the Miz a few weeks back they had a rather intense looking staredown. However, two things make me think that's not happening. 1: Vince McMahon in all his senile glory feels Morrison can't be a main eventer because he "doesn't look like he could beat someone in a real fight." That's stupid. Morrison's style is similar to Jackie Chan with using the environment and the martial arts fighting. Is Vince saying Jackie Chan can't beat someone? Seriously. The other reason is that even though Morrison's won a lot lately, they've said nothing about his involvement in the Rumble match. No mention=no win.

I believe the exact opposite reasoning will keep Alberto Del Rio from winning. They have shoved down our throats that it's his "destiny" to win the Rumble. It just seems way too obvious to me. I don't think Del Rio's gonna win this.

A lot of people have said if Triple H comes back, he'll win. I hope not and I don't think he will. I expect him to come in, take out Sheamus, but not win himself. Maybe Sheamus will try to get him back. I don't know.

I think the potential Cena/Punk Wrestlemania match will keep Cena from winning. I expect either Nexus, Corre, or both will (most likely illegally) gang up on him to make sure he doesn't win.

So who will win? Isn't it obvious?

Yoshi Tatsu!

Kidding of course. Given what I said above, I honestly don't know and again, I like that. I didn't read any spoilers on surprise entrants or anything like that because I don't want to know. I look forward to being surprised by what happens in the Rumble and I like not really knowing who's gonna win. It's one of the reasons the Royal Rumble is my favorite wrestling event of the year.

It's coming...

Look who's alive.

Well, it's been well over a year, but I've actually come back to my blog...with something new.

Over the past couple of months, I've been making video reviews of Asian movies. I'm hoping to eventually get them picked up by thatguywiththeglasses.com, but until that day comes...if it does, I'll start putting my videos right here. With that said, here's the first. It's not very good...at all, but it was the first so what do you expect?

Another concert and my first writing experience.

Well, after a few days of nothing happening, I had a couple pretty cool events. First and formost, I have begun trying my hand at song writing. As I've mentioned before, I can't write music to save my life but I can write lyrics pretty well. So I wrote some lyrics and managed to find myself a guy from my church who can write music. So I may be on my way to having an original song soon. I'll let you know once I hear from John, the guy who I gave the lyrics to.

In other music news, it would appear June 7th will not be my next concert. I now have another performance before that. On April 17th I will be performing at the Linger Longer Cafe in Allegany, NY. I will be performing at 7 pm and I highly recommend people come and check it out, not so much to hear me but to try the food and great dessert drinks they offer. The cafe and bookstore have not been doing very good business-wise and I want to help in any way I can because it's a great place and I'd hate to see it go. So even before my concert, if you live in the area, check it out. It's got wonderful food and a very nice, though dwindling bookstore.

Well that's about all that's going on right now. Everything else is pretty much same old same old. School's going well, my jobs aren't giving me a lot of hours but with the economy the way it is, I'm not surprised. We're doing pretty good getting Kali to take her heart medicine...oh and by the way, never trust a cat to sleep next to you when you're sleeping. I thought Bummer was trying to suffocate me today when he decided to sleep on top of my face. lol.

Anyway, till next time.

An opportunity?

Interesting day today. While in Jamestown I found volume one of the Gaither Vocal Band Reunion DVD. I've been looking for that for a while so I was quite pleased. Ironically, at the same store, I bought "His name was Jason. 30 years of Friday the 13th." Quite a contrast there, eh?

It's not news that I'm doing a concert in June but it seems I may be doing a little singing work sooner. It was suggested to me that I should make a CD to send out to some people, specifically the Gaithers. So this week, I will be in the process of recording. Who knows...this could be a big start for me.

Today I also went to see Paul Blart: Mall Cop. The movie was hilarious. I highly recommend it. It also featured some good previews(which are my favorite part of a movie anyway) including a preview for Dragonball Evolution. DB was the series that first got me interested in anime so I'm extremely excited for that movie which comes out in a little less then two months.

I'll keep the two people reading this up to date on my recording this week. Till next time.

My own concert and a better one I don't get to see.

Well, the bad out-weighed the good for me today. Why couldn't it have been the other way around?

I've been job searching lately since the two part time jobs I have are both failing to give me any hours. True, it's not their fault as the economy has hit them just like everyone else, but still. The problem I'm facing is that most of the good full time positions require experience. As I see these things I ask myself, "How can I get any experience if they only want to hire people who already have it?" Doesn't make sense to me.

On a fairly good note, today I began picking out songs for my June concert. I'm studying music at college, but right now I couldn't write music to save my life so most of my performances are done using soundtracks. They're kind of like karaoke CDs except they're specifically designed for performance use. Anyway, I have four songs already available and ordered two more online. Along with an acapella song I'm planning, I think I should pick one or maybe two more songs to do. I'll keep you posted.

The other bad thing I have to share is that I found out one of my favorite Japanese bands, Morning Musume will be performing in America for the first time. The bad thing is that the performance is in LA. Why did I have to go and live in stupid western NY? Knowing my luck they'll never come anywhere remotely close to me.

I need to drown my sorrows in junk food. Until next time.
